Course: Pope Francis and the Primacy of Mercy
A Biblical Defence of Amoris Laetitia
Starts Wednesday 7 March
Much controversy has followed on from Pope Francis’ Post Synodal Exhortation Amoris Laetitia, and that especially so in respect of chapter 8. Among other things, allegations of apostasy, heresy, even of an illegitimate papacy have been cast around. At root, the arguments and issues devolve upon how it is mercy is to inform and shape the Church’s understanding of the means of grace. This series of talks argues that Francis’ deployment of mercy is very much in accord with the ways in which Jesus and St Paul interpret the Scriptures.
Furthermore, that through her history the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has steadily grown in her appreciation of the ways in which she is used by God to be the means of grace and mercy to the whole of creation.
